Clifton Beach

Clifton Beach

suntan cream and diesel
a sweet-sour chemistry
of bananas and drains

boulders boiling and smoking
steam rising from
skin and sandstone

a history of skin
a mythology of flesh
in every grain of sand

each a storehouse
of heart’s blood
metres deep

thick with
ageless lust
the murmurous tides of

countless generations
of burnished youth
yearning for itself

and deeper even than that
the grave of voyeurism
a vast assembly

of lecherous ghosts
peering between the spindly
legs of ogling old fuckers

braving the steps
soon to join their predecessors
but for now free

of foolish inhibition
undeterred by stiff necks stubborn joints
these old ones bask and gargle

stretching painfully
after a built bikini
silenced for a moment

owl eyes full
of the biggest pair of tits
on the beach

until words return
juicy sounds and gestures
for the benefit of blurred vision

cataracts hard of hearing
but big tits don’t see or hear
old fuckers

tits have nipples
not eyes or ears
so what if salt water

drips like drool
from dropped jaws
and the sea is warmed by incontinence?

    A compelling whiff of corruption.

You should write copy for one of the SA tourist sites, Rosemund. "Come to sunny Clifton Beach where the sea is warmed by incontinence." Eww!
